Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, has commended the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, for creating an unprecedented sense of inclusion and ownership among Nigerians through the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.
Idi Hong, who is the Second Deputy Vice President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), said the IPO had created greater awareness among ordinary Nigerians about the opportunity to own shares in a major industrial enterprise.
He made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview after touring the Dangote Pavilion at the ongoing Abuja International Trade Fair.
According to him, the opportunity for ordinary Nigerians to acquire an ownership stake in the refinery represents one of the significant features of the public offer.
“There was no time in the history of this country that the common man knows that you could own a piece of an organisation without owning an organisation.
“The sense of inclusivity and owning part of Dangote Refinery is the beauty of Dangote’s IPO.”
Idi Hong commended Aliko Dangote for inviting Nigerians to become part of the ownership story of the refinery, describing the IPO as an important development in broadening participation in the Nigerian capital market.
He said Nigerians should appreciate the opportunity to become part of what he described as Dangote’s industrial legacy.
“Dangote’s IPO was a successful outing,” he noted.
The Dangote Refinery IPO comprises 4.1 billion ordinary shares offered at ₦525 per share, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares valued at ₦5,250. The offer opened on September 14 and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026, subject to the terms of the offer. If fully subscribed, it is expected to raise approximately ₦2.15 trillion.
The public offer has attracted significant attention, with Dangote recently describing demand for the IPO as “enormous” as the company continues its investor-awareness campaign across Nigeria.
In a goodwill message to the Abuja International Trade Fair, Dangote Industries Limited reaffirmed its commitment to economic development of Nigeria.
Representative of Dangote and General Manager, Federal Government Liaison, Mr. Hashem Ahmed said the theme of the fair, which encompasses trade, taxation, and economic development, aligns closely with the Group’s business philosophy and its contribution to Nigeria’s economic development.
He said its investments across manufacturing, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and other critical sectors continue to support domestic production, create employment, develop local supply chains and contribute to government revenues through taxes and other statutory obligations.
“The Group’s approach is anchored on the belief that a stronger productive economy creates opportunities for businesses and citizens alike.
“By investing in local production and expanding industrial capacity, we are helping to reduce dependence on imports, conserve foreign exchange, deepen value addition and strengthen Nigeria’s economic resilience”. He said.
The Group noted that the ongoing Dangote Refinery IPO represents another significant milestone in its commitment to Nigeria’s economic development with the initiative aptly reflecting the spirit of the Abuja International Trade Fair by connecting enterprise, investment, trade and economic resilience.
“Therefore, we are happy to invite participants, investors, entrepreneurs, traders, customers and dealers of our products to Dangote Pavilion where the Group is showcasing a range of products from across its various business units including cement, sugar, salt and seasoning, fertilizer, trucks and logistics, as well as the Dangote Refinery and its ongoing public offer for information about its processes.
President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, said that the Abuja International Trade Fair provides an important platform for businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, government institutions and consumers to connect, explore opportunities and promote trade and investment.
“We value the relationship between ACCI and Dangote Group.
Dangote has consistently demonstrated that a leading indigenous enterprise can play a significant role not only in production and investment, but also in strengthening the wider business ecosystem, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN further stated.
